This time warp 205 Phase 1 example must be one of the most original and lowest mileage to survive. With the more responsive 1.6-litre engine, this car was ordered with the lightest and purist possible specification. It benefits from not having the catalytic converter, electric windows or other weighty equipment, like the sunroof, making this one of the few non-sunroof cars. The 1.6-litre GTi’s came with a short ratio gearbox enabling more sprightly performance than the 1.9. One of the earliest right-hand drive 205 GTi’s built, this car was first registered in March 1985 to a lady in Hertfordshire. Used on average for a couple of thousand miles each year up until 1999 when it was sold at 23,100 miles. The second owner also used the car sparingly until it changed hands in 2012, showing 30,700 miles. Soon after purchase, he fell ill and the car was stored until 2016. At 30,900 miles it was transferred to the next owner in September 2017. They owned the car until 2020 when it was bought by a collector who has also kept the car in amazing condition. In April 2018, the car had a 36,000-mile cambelt service and, in May 2019, it visited renowned GTi specialist, Pug Racing, Fordingbridge.
